How to Update the Galaxy S5 SM-G900H to the Android 5.0 Lollipop

Samsung always advises us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update.  I have also added some useful insights why you should follow this procedures to keep your  phone in safe.

Recharge the phone’s battery – You should make sure your device is fully recharged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failures may cause damaged to your device that might results as we so-called “soft-bricks”. If this happens your device may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.

Back important data – You should back-up your important files, including contacts, emails, messages, photos, videos, apps and other stuff. Like I said while during software update process is interrupted there is a possibility that your data stored from your device internal SD card may lose or deleted when a sudden unexpected failure happened and it forces you to perform a factory data reset which basically wipes your phone’s memory.

Galaxy S5 has no root – Your device should not be modified and rooted, as there is a certain circumstances that a modified and rooted Galaxy S5 SM-G900H may not accept any official software update anymore or it can accept an update but it might harm your device once the update has made. Learn about the new Samsung KNOX security suite. Most known error that says ‘firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in kies and try again‘ or “Your device has been modified Software update are not available” you should try to avoid that from happening.

Update to 5.0 Lollipop via Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is usually how the carrier branded or locked Samsung Galaxy S5, performs a software update.  This method is Firmware Update through over the air or called as OTA update, which usually a notification message will directly sent to you from your network provider or Samsung and notifies you that there is a new update available for download.  If you did not receive any notification messages you can manually check fro the update instead.  Doing this you may only tap on your Galaxy S5 SM-G900F Settings>>About Device, tap Software Update.
  • Find “Software update”
  • Slide your finger down the display starting from the top edge of your mobile phone.
  • Tap the settings icon.
  • Tap About device.
  • Tap Software update.

It will automatically tells you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet. You can simply tap install now when you want to perform an update or install later.

Update to 5.0 Lollipop Through Kies

The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Kies. You may head-over to your  local Samsung support page from where you can download Samsung Kies from there, and install it in your Windows or Mac computer. Choose the new Kies 3 which supports the Galaxy S5 SM-G900H and other Samsung devices running with Android 4.4.2 and up OS .  Once you installed Kies 3, all you need is connect your Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900H to the computer using the USB cable, then simply run and follow Kies on-screen software update instructions.

Lollipop Update G900FDXU1BOC2 on Galaxy S5 G900F Singapore

The Samsung Galaxy S5 G900F got a new 5.0 Lollipop update to build version G900FDXU1BOC2 in Singapore alone. The latter will replace the first build version G900FDXU1BOB5 which just recently rolled out last few days ago.  There might be a severe  issues have had found  on the first update 'BOB5' which of course Samsung ironed it out in juts a matter days.  This is seems looks the same thing  happened to the official Lollipop update 5.0 G900FXXU1BOB7 which released  in Europe  which took around some few builds before a more tangible Lollipop update came out.

Here are technical details of the 5.0 Lollipop G900FDXU1BOC2;

Device name: Galaxy S5
Model number: SM-G900F
Android version: 5.0
Baseband version: G900FDXU1BOC2
Kernel version: 3.4.0-4331963
Build Number: LRX21T.G900FDXU1BOC2

While taking  a closer look at it,  you can see that it has the same kernel build version as "3.4.0-4331963" compared  to the first Lollipop  update G900FDXU1BOB5.  So once anyone took the G900FDXU1BOC2 Lollipop update it might have just  some minor tweaks added on it but cannot expect any major effect on its looks and design.

Android Version: 5.0
Baseband version: G900FDXU1BOB5
Kernel version: 3.4.0-4331963
Build Number: LRX21T.G900FDXU1BOB5

Again, this update is only available for Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F users in  Singapore. Those who might get confused about the build number that starts with "G900FD" which mistakenly identified as for the Samsung Galaxy S5 Dous. No it is not, this for SEA region default build version.

Furthermore the G900FDXU1BOB5 5.0 Lollipop update can be seen in Kies as of this moment and might also available thru Over-The-Air (OTA) update. So just do manual software update check if you did not yet receive any notification message.

Galaxy S5 G900FXXU1BOB7 5.0 Lollipop Update, Silent mode is back

A new Lollipop software update version G900FXXU1BOB7 is hitting on Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F once again.  The G900FXXU1BOB7 is still in Android 5.0 Lollipop base  next to the previous G900FXXU1BOA3 . The latter has just rolled out in United Kingdom at this moment  but the firmware build itself also indicates  a 'multi CSC' that also points to other countries in Europe.  So chances are that the rest of Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F users might also get this update soon.

Since we already seen the Android 5.0 in action so there is nothing to expect any major changes about this update. But some significant adverse effect I noticed about the G900FXXU1BOB7 is that the "Silent mode" feature has returned back.  On previous updates we knew that  the "Silent mode" was removed but now you can see it again in status bar.  I also noticed that the screen brightness seem also reduced at around 10% level  which is a bit dimmer than before even I set it up to 100%.  I can't see any improvements  in battery life performance as it's still fresh but I'm still monitoring it on a different usage.

Furthermore, the G900FXXU1BOB7 Lollipop update weights  323.39MB in file size. It is held both available via Over-The-Air and Kies but then again can only be seen in UK at this moment. I'll just keep you updated if and when it also arrives in some countries.

The technical details of the G900FXXU1BOB7 Android 5.0 Lollipop update reads as follows:
  • Device: Samsung Galaxy S5
  • Model number: SM-G900F
  • Android version: 5.0 (Lollipop OS)
  • Baseband version G900FXXU1BOA3
  • Kernel version: 3.4.0-4209230
  • Build number: LRX21T.G900FXXU1BOB7
  • SE for Android status Enforcing
  • AP: G900FXXU1BOB7
  • CSC: G900FOXA1BOB7
  • CP: G900FXXU1BOB7

Again, the G900FXXU1BOA7 is only available for UK’s unbranded Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F users.  The rest of European countries might also start seeing the same update these following days. I still seeing the G900FXXU1BOA3 released for those who got a carrier branded Galaxy S5  G900F. Those who have not seen the Android 5.0 Lollipop update yet, might better manually check it via Over-the-air (OTA) update or using Kies. Below are the guides that shows the basic  method on how to perform a software update on Samsung Galaxy S5.

G900PVPU1AOA6 Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900P Android 5.0 Lollipop update officially released

New official firmware update build G900PVPU1AOA6 this is Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900P official Android 5.0 Lollipop update (LRX21T.G900PVPU1BOA6). Sprint is the second among major US carriers had to unleashed the much awaited Lollipop update just right after Verizon Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update to G900VVRU1BOA8 just within 48 hours ahead. While AT&T also dropped an update to G900AUCU2AOA1 but still  remains in Android 4.4.4 KitKat. T-Mobile Galaxy S5 no signs of any update yet, but we're hoping that they might also follow very soon.

In addition, Samsung US support has also addressed some of the latter's changelog details such as the Enhanced Voice over WiFi UI and Lumen tool bar being removed.  But apparently, there are lots of improvements and enhancements added in it from which the changelog given did not says it all. The roll out of G900PVPU1AOA6 Lollipop update is available via Over-The-Air weighing at 898.44MB file size, beginning February 5 and might last in a week until all users receive the update. Android software update rollouts usually conducted in phases which is typically they start at  select percentage of devices within around 24 to 48 hours.

Upon updating to Android 5.0 OS, users were advised to free enough memory spaces at around 3 Gbytes remained in the phone. The requirement is a must, failing to comply the phone will just restores back to KitKat OS. Once until a user generates the required free memory space he or she can retry to update again.

Below is the technical details of G900PVPU1AOA6 5.0 once the lollipop update has finished. Updating to Android 5.0 OS took me around 40 minutes upon downloading and installation process, as it matters also to my data connection speed. It booted quite much longer compared to those KitKat OS update days due to several optimization process in Android Lollipop.

Technical Details of G900PVPU1AOA6 Lollipop Software Update

Once the update has made, you might also check for any apps you have previously installed if it still runs correctly.  All apps is requires an update prior to Android 5.0 compatibility or otherwise it just causes lags.

Again, the Lollipop OS update is now only available via OTA and we have not seen it in Kies firmware server yet, but might as well also available these following of days.

So, if you did not receive the OTA notification yet, just keep on checking. As I mentioned that the roll-outs is in phases, some can get an update while other will need to wait.  Make sure your device is not rooted and modified or else you will be in trouble while getting the G900PVPU1AOA6 Android 5.0 Lollipop.

How to Update to G900PVPU1AOA6 5.0 Lollipop via Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the easiest method to get the Firmware Update via Over-The Air or so-called as OTA update.  which usually a notification message will directly sent to you from your network provider. It simply notifies you that there is a new software update available to download.  If you did not receive any notification messages yet, you can manually check the update instead.  You may only tap on your Galaxy S5 SM-G900P Settings>>About Device, then tap Software Update.

Verizon Galaxy S5 SM-G900V gets the official Android 5.0 Lollipop update to G900VVRU1BOA8! Samsung and Verizon has just started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update containing the build number LRX21T.G900VVRU1BOA8 to all Galaxy S5 SM-G900V users. Verizon Galaxy S5 users will receive two OTA updates from Android 4.4.4 G900VVRU1ANK2. The first one is an updated version of Android 4.4.4 KitKat that comes in build number G900VVRU1ANK7 which technically prepares the device in compatibility mode to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop. Then followed by the Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware build LRX21T.G900VVRU1BOA8.

Verizon is the first US carrier that had to unleashed the first Android Lollipop update on Samsung Galaxy S5 in United States alone. While other carriers like Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T might as well and being expected to roll out the awaited Lollipop update to their own versions of Samsung Galaxy S5. As the Android 5.0 update has been gradually rolled out but might would not be taking too long enough before the Android 5.0 Lollipop update also reaches on all countries and carriers worlwide. Noting that the international Samsung Galaxy S5 G900F, which the latter received the Lollipop update earlier in December and the Galaxy S5 G900H also got its first Lollipop update a while ago. Sprint also have its own Android 5.0 update being leaked, so this is a good indication that all US Galaxy S5 users will completely received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update very soon.

Anyway, if you have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and happens to be from Verizon then you are lucky enough to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. The update itself is technically ends-up into software build number LRX21T.G900VVRU1BOA8, see the attached screenshots so you will not get confused about what was posted in Verizon's Knowledge Base such as LRX21T.G900VVRU1BNLC and also posted in other tech-websites. Looking at G900VVRU1BNLC it's a December 2014 build, so basically it was already there earlier last December 2014 under a test-run but was then revised and finalized in January 27 and also being changed the build number to LRX21T.G900VVRU1BOA8 to cope up as 2015 update.

The Lollipop update specifically bringing-in six categorized key-features and enhancements such as Material Design, Lock screen, Touchwiz, Floating action button, and Interruption. Just head-over on Verizon's support page — to learn about the specific definition of those addressed technical changelog by Verizon Wireless. Again the update usually released in stages, but better check the update if you have not seen the update yet. Just follow this step-by step-by-step instructions at Verizon (.pdf).

Just make sure your Galaxy S5 G900V should not have been rooted or else you will just get into troubles to get the Android Lollipop. You must unroot your Galaxy S5 G900V first so you can perform an update without any hiccups.

How to Upgrade the Galaxy S5 SM-G900H to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop Software Update

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update has finally reaches in UK Samsung  Galaxy S5 users.  A unique software build number G900FXXU1BOA3, indicating a fresher build this year. The three last digits letters "OA3", the  "O" basically emphasized as a date of a year "2015", while letter "A" holds the first month of the year which is "January"  and the number "3" shows how many revisions has its made.

In addition,  if one might have to ask why Samsung had to released another firmware build version in UK whilst the rest of European countries has the same build version. Well, maybe it just happens that UK's Galaxy S5 just got delayed a bit and there is nothing to argue with that. If we take a closer look to the firmware build G900FXXU1BOA3 itself, it has a similar changes-value to the previous Android 5.0 G900FXXU1BNL9. It is simply means that nothing more any special added features to it. But noting that the G900FXXU1BOA3 is the newer build and had been into several revisions, then there is a possibility that it might be something a lot better than the previously rolled out.

However, the United States version of Samsung Galaxy S5, including  AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and  Sprint has no signs of any official Android 5.0 Lollipop update yet. And so does in Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Middle East and Latin America at this time being. But let's hope that it will going to arrive very soon!

The recent firmware released with build number G900FXXU1BNL9 which landed in Poland and Spain few weeks ago  now continues and are also available for Vodafone, A1, and SI.mobil branded Galaxy S5 but might as well going to arrive to several countries in Europe.  It seems that the G900FXXU1BNL9 have had showed and acquired the flexibility and stability firmware build after some few revision attempts from G900FXXU1BNL2 and G900FXXU1BNL7.

Furthermore, there are still some few glitches has been reported which particularly talked about regarding some 3rd-party apps compatibility issues. So I highly recommend to make a full data reset and clean wipe once before and after the installation. You might also need to update any outdated applications and see if it resolves any unwanted problems.

Samsung always urge us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update.

Like I said while during software update process is interrupted there is a possibility that your data stored from your device internal SD card may lose or deleted when a sudden unexpected failure happened and it forces you to perform a factory data reset which basically wipes your phone’s memory.

Galaxy S5 should no root – Your device should not be modified or rooted, there is a certain circumstances that a modified and rooted Galaxy S5 SM-G900F may not accept any official software update anymore or it can accept an update but it might harm your device once the update has made. Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop Update G900FDXU1BNL3 Rolling Out in SEA region

If you are rocking the Samsung Galaxy S5 and happens to be from Southeast Asia, you should keep an eye of the Official Android 5.0 Lollipop update as it is coming on its way.  This is SEA region's first Android lollipop update and dubbed with build number G900FDXU1BNL3,  but only seen rolled out in Malaysia at this time being.  Just hope that it might also arrive to the rest of SEA countries very soon, if there are no any major glitches to its performance.

In addition, the G900FDXU1BNL3 has a different development  path and is basically built for Southeast countries only, but in theory it still similar to the European  firmware build such as the  G900FXXU1BNL9. So it's not a better idea to compare which released build is better from one specific region to another.  This might have some less or more apps

However,  for those who wants to have their Galaxy S5 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop you may get the update via Kies.  This is an update from previous Android 4.4.2 KitKat G900FXXU1ANI4 which is also only released in SEA countries last year.
