AT&T Galaxy S6, S6 active, S6 edge and S6 Edge+ receiving October Security updates [G920AUCS5DPJ1]

AT&T is now pushing updates to the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 active, Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+.

According to AT&T's support pages,  these updates includes the October security patches. So there is nothing more any new features nor any noticeable adverse effect to expect. Even though the security updates is not that much anticipated in these days, but it helps keep your personal data safe. It always much better to keep an eye for your device updates each month.

Below are the technical details of each specific device. Just make sure to check the update if your device haven't yet receive one of these recently released software updates.

Device Update via Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 edge  to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will be directly sent out to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.  This approach requires you to prepare a strong WiFi connection,  and so it might happen sometimes that one did not receive any software update notification messages; (1) If and when the device is out of range during the software update roll out  period, (2) Automatic update has been turned off in the device Settings.
However, We can still manually check for the update instead.

Here’s how to do it manually:

• From your Galaxy S6 edge Home screen tap on Apps.
• Select the Settings gear icon.
• Tap About device.
• Tap Software update.
• Tap Check for an update.

It will then notify you that a new update is available for download. But it also says that “Your device software is up to date“, and there is no software update is yet available for grab. You can simply choose Install now if you do so or else Install later if you want to get the update in later time.

But if ever you might have had received this message while checking software update that says something like “The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.”  This is a warning message that only appears for those devices that have been rooted and installed with modified and unofficial firmware.  So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot the Galaxy S6 edge first, and or removed any modification that has been installed in it.

Sprint  has pushed an OTA update for Galaxy S6 (SM-G920P) and the Galaxy S6 edge (SM G925P), bringing the new Android security Patch for the month of October. The update came out as build version G920PVPS4CPJ1 (for the Galaxy S6) and build G925PVPS4CPJ1 (for the Galaxy S6 edge). The update is officially live via Over-The-Air (OTA) and it weighs at approximately 50 MB in file size.  The rolling out usually takes into several days, so better check the update manually by going to Settings > About device > Software Update > Check for updates, if you haven’t prompted the availability of the this update yet. You must also ensure that your phone has not been rooted or otherwise the update may fail and you may not successfully get the update.

How to Update the Samsung Galaxy S5 to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow?

Samsung urges us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update.  I have also added some useful insights why you should follow this procedure to keep your  phone in safe.

Recharge the phone’s battery – You should make sure your device is fully recharged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. Choose the new Kies 3 which supports the Galaxy S5 SM-G900T and other Samsung devices running with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS .  Once you installed Kies / Smart Switch, all you need is connect your Samsung Galaxy S5 into your PC using the USB data cable, then simply run and follow Kies or Smart Switch on-screen’s software update instruction.

For those who have a rooted Galaxy S5, you folks might need to download the stock firmware itself - either the G900TUVS1GPI1, G900T1UVS1GPI1, or the G900T3UVS3GPI1 as you may no longer get the Over The air update as long as your device has been modified – Galaxy S5 SM-G900T Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Firmware.  So the only way to upgrade your phone to Marshmallow is to manually install the official Android 6.0.1 Marsmallow firmware itself. Verizon Galaxy S6 G920VVRS4CPI2, S6 edge G925VVRS4CPI2 update, brings September security patches

How to Update Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Edge via Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 edge  to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will be directly sent out to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.  This approach requires you to prepare a strong WiFi connection,  and so it might happen sometimes that one did not receive any software update notification messages; (1) If and when the device is out of range during the software update roll out  period, (2) Automatic update has been turned off in the device Settings.
However, We can still manually check for the update instead.

Here’s how to do it manually:

• From your Galaxy S6 edge Home screen tap on Apps.
• Select the Settings gear icon.
• Tap About device.
• Tap Software update.
• Tap Check for an update.

How to Update Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Edge Using Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant

You may download and install the Software Upgrade Assistant  at Verizon support page if you haven't installed it yet in your computer.

1. Launch  Software Upgrade Assistant.
2. Connect your device to the PC using the supplied USB cable.
3. You may need to manually open the "USB computer connection" and select "Transferring media files/ File transfer".
4. Select the Samsung device.
5. Click Upgrade.
6. When  the software upgrade process completed you may then close the program and disconnect your device.
