How to update the Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920I to the latest build version

Prepare the following recommendations before you update your device, to keep it safe as possible. There is a risk involved upon updating, so make sure to follow this steps before you proceed.

Check the remaining  power percentage of the battery, it should be at least 50% or higher before you take the update. If it is lower to the recommended level, the device must be charged first. Insufficient battery power may cause a fatal error if and when the update failed to initiate.

Ensure that your device is connected to a strong Wi-Fi connection. Some firmware update may take long enough to install and it will depend on how small or large the update file size is.

Check the remaining storage space of your device memory if it still enough and can still store the file size of the incoming update. You can easily determine the incoming update’s file size as it prompts you the exact details. The size may vary, some minor updates usually varies from 100MB to 200MB while major updates also usually varied from 300MB up to 500MB.

Ensure to create a backup of your stored data in the device memory. You can easily backup your Galaxy Note 5 data by using Smart Switch. This process is very important and it is highly recommended before taking an update. You should secure you data first beforehand. If ever something might go wrong during the update process, and you might encounter a failure, you will not lose your data. Some fatal errors while performing the software update usually forces you to perform the factory reset in recovery mode. Doing so, will bring the device back to its original factory default settings but it deletes your stored data as it technically wipes and cleans out the device memory cache.

Do not ever touch your phone if the updating process is already initiated. Just let the phone sit on top of your table and make sure it could not be interrupted on any part. You should not press any keys, nor turning the power off  and or removing the battery. Do not disconnect the USB cable if  you’re performing an update using a computer.

Make sure you Galaxy Note 5 has no root in it, and or running on any unofficial firmware. Keep in mind that a rooted and a modified phone will no longer receive any official firmware update from the dealer. Doing so, you will only receive the advisory message that says something like this;
“The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.”

Update your Galaxy Note 5 via Over The Air (OTA Update)

The Over The Air (OTA) update requires you to connect your Galaxy Note 5 to a Wi-Fi network to ease your burden on high data charges.

  • Tap Check for updates.

  • Tap the Install button, then OK.

  • Wait until the phone completely reboot before touching it. It may reboot (turn on and off) multiple times as the update might still at its finalization stage.

If the update is available, it will just prompt you the update’s technical details including on how to download and install it. If somehow the update isn’t available yet, it will also tell you that that your device software is up to date. However, even if the update is already rolled out and you’ve already knew that it is officially released in your country and or network provider, you should also consider that the released usually take in stages and may also take days before it arrives on some areas. How to Update the Galaxy S6  Edge (SM-G925F) to G925FXXU2COH2 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

The G925FXXU2COH2 5.1.1 update is now held available for those Galaxy S6 edge owners in United Kingdom and Ireland. However, Samsung might also going to  release the aforementioned update  to the rest of the Galaxy S6 edge users around the world that would be very nice. So better manually check the update by following the guide below.
  • Do not forget to recharge your phone.
  • Do not forget to back up all of the important data.
  • Your Galaxy S6 edge must still run on the official software version and hasn’t been rooted nor installed with non-official firmware.

Updating the Galaxy S6 Edge via Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will be directly sent out to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.  This approach requires you to prepare a strong WiFi connection,  and so it might happen sometimes that one did not receive any software update notification messages; 1) if and when the device is out of range during the software update roll out  period, 2) Automatic update has been turned off in the device Settings.
However, We can still manually check for the update instead.

Here’s how to do it manually:
  • From your Galaxy S6 Home screen tap on Apps.
  • Select the Settings gear icon.
  • Tap About device.
  • Tap Software update.
  • Tap Check for an update.

It will then notify you that a new update is available for download. But it also says that “Your device software is up to date“, and there is no software update is yet available for grab. You can simply choose Download and Install now if you do so or else Install later if you want to get the update in later time.

But if ever you might have had received this message while checking software update that says something like “The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.”  This is a warning message that only appears for those devices that have been rooted and installed with modified and unofficial firmware.  So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot the Galaxy S6 edge  first and removed any modification that has been installed on it.

How to Upgrade the Galaxy S5 SM-G900H to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop Software Update

Samsung always advises us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update.  I have also added some useful insights why you should follow this procedures to keep your  phone in safe.

Recharge the phone’s battery – You should make sure your device is fully recharged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failures may cause damaged to your device that might results as we so-called “soft-bricks”. If this happens your device may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.

Back important data – You should back-up your important files, including contacts, emails, messages, photos, videos, apps and other stuff. Like I said while during software update process is interrupted there is a possibility that your data stored from your device internal SD card may lose or deleted when a sudden unexpected failure happened and it forces you to perform a factory data reset which basically wipes your phone’s memory.

Galaxy S5 has no root – Your device should not be modified and rooted, as there is a certain circumstances that a modified and rooted Galaxy S5 SM-G900H may not accept any official software update anymore or it can accept an update but it might harm your device once the update has made. Learn about the new Samsung KNOX security suite. Most known error that says ‘firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in kies and try again‘ or “Your device has been modified Software update are not available” you should try to avoid that from happening.

Update via Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is usually how the carrier branded or locked Samsung Galaxy S5, performs a software update.  This method is Firmware Update through over the air or called as OTA update, which usually a notification message will directly sent to you from your network provider or Samsung and notifies you that there is a new update available for download.  If you did not receive any notification messages you can manually check fro the update instead.  Doing this you may only tap on your Galaxy S5 SM-G900F Settings>>About Device, tap Software Update.

  • Find “Software update”

  • Slide your finger down the display starting from the top edge of your mobile phone.

  • Tap the settings icon.

  • Tap About device.

  • Tap Software update.

It will automatically tells you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet. You can simply tap install now when you want to perform an update or install later.

UpdateThru Kies

The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Kies. You may head-over to your  local Samsung support page from where you can download Samsung Kies from there, and install it in your Windows or Mac computer. Choose the new Kies 3 which supports the Galaxy S5 SM-G900H and other Samsung devices running with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and  5.0 Lollipop OS.  Once you installed Kies 3, all you need is to simply connect your Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900H to the computer using the USB cable, then simply run and follow Kies on-screen software update instructions.

Where and which countries do the G920FXXU2COH2 5.1.1 update could be specifically released?

The G920FXXU2COH2 5.1.1 update has begun in France and Russia and only Samsung knows to where it could be released.  Noting that the G920FXXU2COH2 is an unbranded firmware build, so other countries in Europe might also get the same update.

When does the G920FXXU2COH2 5.1.1 update begins its rolling out?

The rolling out have started on August 21st in stages, and may take a few days before it completely reaches all Galaxy S6 in the aforementioned countries.  The roll out usually takes at the span of two weeks during the release period via Over-The-Air OTA update, but it is continually available via Smart Switch until there is a new update arrives.

How to Update the Galaxy S6  to Official Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

Just follow these guide on how to keep your Galaxy S6  in a much safer way while performing a software update.  I also added some useful insights and why you should follow this procedure.
First and foremost make sure to recharge your Galaxy S6 – While performing a software update on Galaxy S6  it may only take just a couple of minutes but sometimes it may take longer. It will depend on how small or large the update size is, but most cases it also affects the speed of your data connection. Slower WiFi data connection may take longer while a stronger data connection is more speedy. A 40% to 50% battery power percentage is enough, but a fully recharged is way much better. Since we cannot determine how what the exact time we need to consume when initiating the firmware update so we should make sure our device has still enough battery remaining power to avoid any fatal issues. Have you ever heard or encountered those fellas who ended their devices into soft-bricks? A device was just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally, those are what we called soft-bricks. And most probably caused by an inadequate battery power while performing the software update.

Do not forget to back up all of the important data – Even though there are no any data that are going to be deleted right after performing a software update. But what if the software update went wrong, the update unexpectedly fails and then the phone becomes unresponsive and then it forces you to perform a wipe data/factory that basically wipes your phone’s memory storage just to resolve the issue. So you should backup your important files, including contacts, messages, call log, photos, videos, music, and apps. You cannot recover these files if somehow accidentally deleted when the software update goes wrong.

Your Galaxy S6 must still run on the official software version and hasn’t been rooted nor installed with non-official firmware update – Just in case you just need to know that a rooted and a modified Galaxy S6  will not get official software update anymore from Samsung and either to which carrier provider it came from. It will not allow users to install the update as it might harm the device once the update has made. So a rooted and modified Galaxy S6 users usually receives this warning message instead, that says ‘The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.

How to Update the Galaxy S6 via  Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update.

So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot your Galaxy S6 first and removed any modification that has been installed on it.

How to Update the Galaxy S6 using Smart Switch

You can use Smart Switch to update your Galaxy S6 software to the latest versions.  It can also be used if the Software Over-The-Air update fails for some reason. The Smart Switch is way similar to the before Samsung Kies that had been used on several devices.

Download Smart Switch for PC

You have to choose the one that is specifically built for computer, depends on of what you have either a PC or Mac.  Once you installed Smart Switch, all you need is to connect your Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G925F into the computer using the supplied USB data cable.

6. Click on the “More” button again.  Choose “Emergency software recovery and initialization” in the drop-down option.

Choose the “Software Update and Initialization” tab.

How to Update the Samsung Galaxy S6 4G+ (SM-G920I) to Official Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

Just follow these guide on how you can keep your Galaxy S6 in a much safer way while performing a software update.  I also added some useful insights and why you should follow this procedure.

First and foremost make sure to recharge your Galaxy S6 4G+ – While performing a software update on Galaxy S6 it may only take just a couple of minutes but sometimes it may take longer. It will depend on how small or large the update size is, but most cases it also affects the speed of your data connection. Slower WiFi data connection may take longer while a stronger data connection is more speedy. A 40% to 50%  battery power is enough, but a fully recharged one is way much better.

Do not forget to back up all of the important data – Even though there are no any data that are going to be deleted right after performing the software update.

Your Galaxy S6 4G+ must still run on the official software version and hasn’t been rooted nor installed with non-official firmware update – Just in case you just need to know that a rooted and a modified Galaxy S6 will not get official software update anymore from Samsung and either to which carrier or mobile network provider it came from. It will not allow users to install the update as it might harm the device once the update has made. So a rooted and modified Galaxy S6 users usually receives this warning message instead, that says: The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.

Update the Galaxy S6 4G+ via Firmware Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will directly send to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.
  • In your Galaxy S6 Home screen tap on Apps.

So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot your Galaxy S6 first and removed any modification that has been installed on it.

It will then automatically tells you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet.

Update the Galaxy S6 4G+ using  Smart Switch

Samsung Smart Switch has the capability to  initiate software update on Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. You can use Smart Switch to update your Galaxy S6 software to the latest versions.  It can also be used if the Software Over-The-Air update fails for some reason. The Smart Switch is way similar to the before Samsung Kies that had been used on several devices.

You may head-over to your local Samsung support page from where you can download Samsung Smart Switch from there.  You can choose the one that is specifically built for computer, depends on what you have either a PC or Mac.  Once you installed Smart Switch, all you need is to connect your Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G920F into the computer using the supplied USB data cable.

1. Run Smart Switch on PC.

2. Click on the “More” button at the right top of Smart Switch. You will then presented an option.  Choose “Preferences”  in the drop-down. You are then presented with two tabs the Backup file and  Software Update.  The backup file allows you to allocate a certain folder where you want your  backup files to be stored. Then on the other hand theSoftware Update tab is where you can set it to the Latest Software Pre-Download Settings.  Just mark the checkbox where it says  Latest Software Pre-Download.

3. Connect the Galaxy S6 into the computer using the supplied USB data cable.

4. Select the “Backup” button, to safely kept your important data and files such as contacts, messages, call log, videos, music, photos, application and more.  The back up data files will be stored in the  documents folder of your computer. This is a very important steps as it wipes out all of it while performing the software update process. All data will permanently deleted and it cannot be recovered, so ensure to create a backup first before it’s too late than sorry.

5. Click on the “More” button again.  Choose “Emergency software recovery and initialization” in the drop-down option.

Choose the “Software Update and  Initialization” tab.
Wait for a couple of seconds as it check the current software version of your Galaxy S6 and then check for the latest software update version to initialized.  You may then simply follow the on-screen instructions that ask you to click the “OK” or a “Cancel” button.

Once the Software update initialization started you must not  interrupt the process like unplugging  the data cable connected to the computer nor turning off the device. You must wait until it says “Software update and Initialization are complete”.

Once your Galaxy S6 reboots disconnect it from the computer. Then reconnect it back again.

6. Lastly restore the backup, choose “Restore” button to restore the previously created  backup files.

That’s all! Just let me know if you already updated your Samsung Galaxy S6 4G+ SM-G920I to software build version G920IDVU2COH4 Android 5.1.1 update.

Those who have not received the update yet, you folks might better manually check it via Over-the-air (OTA) update or using Kies. Below are the guides that show you the basic  intructions on how to perform a software update on Samsung Galaxy S5.

How to Update the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F to Official Android 5.0 Lollipop?

Samsung urges us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update.  I have also added some useful insights why you should follow this procedure to keep your  phone in safe.

Recharge the phone’s battery – You should make sure your device is fully recharged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failure may cause damaged to your device that might result to what we called “soft-bricks”.  If this happen on your device, it may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.

Backup important data – You should back-up your important files, including contacts, emails, messages, photos, videos, apps and other stuff. Like I said while during software update process is interrupted there is a possibility that your data stored from your device internal SD card may lose or deleted when a sudden unexpected failure happened and it forces you to perform a factory data reset which basically wipes your phone’s memory.

Ensure that your Galaxy S5 should still running in the official Lollipop released build version and hasn’t been rooted – Your device should not be modified or rooted, there are some certain circumstances that a modified and rooted Galaxy S5 SM-G900F may not accept any official software update anymore or it can accept an update but it might harm your device once the update has made. Learn about the new Samsung KNOX security suite. Most known error that says ‘firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in Kies and try again‘ or “Your device has been modified Software update are not available” you should try to avoid that from happening.

How to Perform an Update via Over-The-Air (OTA)?

This is usually how the carrier branded or locked Samsung Galaxy S5, performs a software update.  This method is Firmware Update through over the air or called as OTA update, which most often  a notification message will directly send out to you from your network provider or Samsung and notifies you that there is a new update available for download.  If you did not receive any notification messages you can manually check for the update instead.

It will automatically tell you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet. You can simply tap install now when you want to perform an update or install later. The G900FXXU1BOH4 Android 5.0 update is around 300+ MB in file size while updating via OTA.

How to Update the Galaxy S5 Thru Kies?

The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Kies. You may head over to your  local Samsung support page from where you can download Samsung Kies from there, and install it in your Windows or Mac computer. Choose the new Kies 3 which supports the Galaxy S5 SM-G900F and other Samsung devices running with Android 5.0 Lollipop OS .  Once you installed Kies 3, all you need is to connect your Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F to a PC using the USB data cable, then simply run and follow Kies on-screen's software update instruction.

The update is now rolling out via Over-The-Air (OTA) and Kies to all Canadian Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900W8) to which particularly comes from Rogers, Telus, Bell, Wind, Mobilicity, Koodo, Virgin Mobile, Fido, Vidéotron, EastLink and SaskTel. The released may be in stages and this simply means that everyone may not get the update at the same time. If ever you did not received the notification message yet, you may simply tap on your phone's Settings > About device > Software Update > Check for update.

Below is the step by step procedure on how you can update your Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8 to the officially released build version G900W8VLU1BOC2, Android 5.0 Lollipop.

How to Update Galaxy S5 G900W8 to 5.0 Lollipop via Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is usually how the carrier branded or locked Samsung Galaxy S5, performs a software update.  This method is Firmware Update through over the air or called as OTA update, which most often  a notification message will directly sent out to you from your network provider and notifies you that there is a new update available for download.  If you did not receive any notification messages you can manually check for the update instead.  Doing so you may only navigate on your Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8 Settings>>About Device, then tap Software Update.

  • Find “Software update”

  • Slide your finger down the display starting from the top edge of your mobile phone.

  • Tap the settings icon.

  • Tap About device.

  • Tap Software update.

It will automatically tell you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet. You can simply tap install now when you want to perform an update or install later. The G900W8VLU1BOC2  Android 5.0 update is around 300+ MB in file size while updating via Over-The-Air (OTA) update.

How to Get the Lollipop Update using Kies

The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Kies. You may head-over to your  local Samsung support page from where you can download Samsung Kies from there, and install it in your Windows or Mac computer. Choose the new Kies 3 which supports the Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8 and other Samsung devices running from Android KitKat, and up to Lollipop OS.  Once you installed Kies 3, all you need is to simply  connect your Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8 into the PC using the USB data cable, then simply run and follow Kies on-screen software update instruction.

Galaxy S6 SM-G920I 5.1.1 Update version G920IDVU2COGA is Rolling out in India and Saudi Arabia

The Samsung Galaxy S6 has once again received a 5.1.1 update that will bump the build version to G920IDVU2COGA from the previous 5.1.1. G920IDVU2COF8.  This is the second  Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update being released in India's Galaxy S6 owners. While, on the other hand, this the same update that has also  been rolled out in Saudi Arabia but it the first 5.1.1 update we have ever seen released in the country so far.  The update brings the device security enhancements to  fix a certain bug (Stagefright) vulnerabilities and further improvements performance, to which also includes the battery life improvements.

Technical details G920IDVU2COGA 5.1.1 update:

  • Model number: SM-G920I
  • Android version: 5.0.2
  • Baseband version: G920IDVU2COGA
  • Kernel version: 3.10.61-5499188
  • Build number: LMY47X.G920IDVU2COGA

How to Update the Samsung Galaxy S6 G920I to Official Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

Just follow these guide on how to keep your Galaxy S6 in a much safer way while performing a software update.  I also added some useful insights and why you should follow this procedure.

First and foremost make sure to recharge your Galaxy S6 – While performing the software update on Galaxy S6 it may only take just a couple of minutes but sometimes it may take longer. It will depend on how small or large the update size is, but most cases it also affects the speed of your data connection. Slower WiFi data connection may take longer while a stronger data connection is more speedy. A 40% to 50% recharged  battery power is enough, but a fully recharged is way much better.

So a rooted and modified Galaxy S6 users usually receives this warning message instead, that says: The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.

Update the Galaxy S6 via Firmware Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will directly be sent to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.
  • In your Galaxy S6 Home screen tap on Apps.
  • Select the Settings gear icon.
  • Tap About device.
  • Tap Software update.
  • Tap Check for update.

So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot your Galaxy S6 first and removed any modification that has been installed on it.

It will then automatically tells you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet.

Update the Galaxy S6 Thru Samsung Smart Switch

You can use Smart Switch to update your Galaxy S6 software to the latest versions.  It can also be used if the Software Over-The-Air update fails for some reason. The Smart Switch is way similar to the before Samsung Kies that had been used on several devices.

Download Smart Switch for PC

You have to choose the one that is specifically built for computer, depends on what you have either a PC or Mac.  Once you installed Smart Switch, all you need is to connect your Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G920I into the computer using the supplied USB data cable.

1. Run Smart Switch in your computer.

2. Connect the Galaxy S6 into the computer using the supplied USB data cable.

3. Smart Switch will automatically prompt you if the update is available. If it doesn’t respond at all, you may manually navigate through its settings.

4. Click on the “More” button at the right top of Smart Switch. You will then presented an option.  Choose “Preferences”  in the drop-down. You are then presented with two tabs the Backup file and  Software Update.  The backup file allows you to allocate a certain folder where you want your  backup files to be stored. Then on the other hand the Software Update tab is where you can set it to the Latest Software Pre-Download Settings.  Just mark the checkbox where it says  Latest Software Pre-Download.

5. Select the “Backup” button, to safely kept your important data and files such as contacts, messages, call log, videos, music, photos, application and more.  The backup data files will be stored in the  documents folder of your computer. This is a very important steps as it wipes out all of it while performing the software update process. All data will permanently delete and it cannot be recovered, so ensure to create a backup first before it’s too late than sorry.

7. Lastly restore the backup, choose “Restore” button to restore the previously created  backup files.
