Galaxy Note 5 July Security Patch, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, International Updates (07-31-2016 Roundup)

All among the Galaxy Note 5 variants have been receiving an update for the whole month of July.  Many have asked, why there are so many updates that seems it is all the same Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS and  it doesn't  give as much nor any changes at all.  Well, thus updates are not actually similar, it is basically the monthly security patch update for Galaxy Note 5  devices that are technically the fixes to the recently found Android vulnerabilities.

There forward, Google and Samsung will release the maintenance security packaged once in every month.  So each update plays very important role as it deals about the safety of the user's data stored in device that might be easily exploited in no time.  But according to Android security bulletin, there are no any  reports that the said Android vulnerabilities have been exploited already. So those updates are just the extra-precautionary measures if there is an exploitation attempts happens.

So those who already receive the update from July 1 to July 31, but might still continues until the 2nd week of August, this updates are the security patches for the month of July. T-Mobile Galaxy S5 Update G900TUVS1GPG2 July Security Patch

T-Mobile Galaxy S5 has gotten another update that moves its Android Marshmallow OS to build version G900TUVS1GPG2 from its current version G900TUVU1GPE1. This update is merely a small OTA update that brings the monthly security maintenance patches to which now covers for the month of July.  The update is technically just a security  update and there is nothing any more changes or any additional features to the recent Android Marshmallow. The July security package is equipped with 46 Google patches and 4 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures, according Android Security Bulletin.

How to Update the Samsung Galaxy S5 to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow?


Samsung urges us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update.  I have also added some useful insights why you should follow this procedure to keep your  phone in safe.

Recharge the phone’s battery – You should make sure your device is fully recharged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failure may cause damaged to your device that might result to what we called “soft-bricks”.  If this happened on your device, it may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.

Backup important data – You should back-up your important files, including contacts, emails, messages, photos, videos, apps and other stuff. Like I said while during software update process is interrupted there is a possibility that your data stored from your device internal SD card may lose or deleted when a sudden unexpected failure happened and it forces you to perform a factory data reset which basically wipes your phone’s memory.

Ensure that your Galaxy S5 should still running in an official or factory firmware and hasn’t been rooted nor modified – Your device should not be modified or rooted, there are some certain circumstances that a modified and rooted Galaxy S5 SM-G900T may not accept any official software update anymore or it can accept an update but it might harm your device once the update has made. How to Perform an Update via Over-The-Air (OTA)?


This is usually how the carrier branded or locked Samsung Galaxy S5, performs a software update.  This method is Firmware Update through over the air or called as OTA update, which most often  a notification message will directly send out to you from your network provider or Samsung and notifies you that there is a new update available for download.  If you did not receive any notification messages you can manually check for the update instead.  Doing this you may only tap on your Galaxy S5 SM-G900T Settings >About Device > Software Update.
  • From the Home screen, touch the Settings icon.
  • Touch About device.
  • Touch Software update.

It will automatically tell you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet. You can simply tap install now when you want to perform an update or install later.

How to Update the Galaxy S5 Thru Kies / Smart Switch?


The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Kies / Smart Switch for PC. You may head over to your  local Samsung support page from where you can download Samsung Kies from there, and install it in your Windows or Mac computer. Choose the new Kies 3 which supports the Galaxy S5 SM-G900T and other Samsung devices running with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS .  Once you installed Kies / Smart Switch, all you need is connect your Samsung Galaxy S5 into your PC using the USB data cable, then simply run and follow Kies or Smart Switch on-screen’s software update instruction.

For those who have a rooted Galaxy S5, you folks might need to download the G900TUVU1GPE1 stock firmware itself, as you may no longer get the Over The air update as long as your device has been modified – Galaxy S5 SM-G900T Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Firmware.  So the only way to upgrade your phone to Marshmallow is to manually install the official Android 6.0.1 Marsmallow firmware itself. This process will completely unroot and remove any modification in your Galaxy S5 phone and restores it back to its official or factory default firmware.

T-Mobile Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge June Security Patch Update (build version G920TUVU4EPF1, G925TUVU4EPF1)

T-Mobile has released the security maintenance update for the month of  June on Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-G920T), and the Galaxy S6 Edge (SM-G925T).  Along with security patches for June it also indicated that it included the Anti-theft update to which technically signifies the FRP lock protection. This is the device security feature that requires you to log in using the same personal account associated with the phone before it can be reset. While the rest  are various bug fixes and improvements to the device performance.

However, the Galaxy S6 Edge+  (SM-G928T) has not yet seen any the update for this month but might as well follow next month.

As you may know, T-Mobile has not released the May's security maintenance update. So there might some more workaround has been added to this update just to fill out the gaps that have been missed.

So those who did not received the update's notification message yet, you folks might better check the update manually either via Over-The Air update with strong Wi-Fi connection and or thru Samsung Smart Switch for PC.  The update weighs at approximately  250 MB to download.

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 edge  to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. However, We can still manually check for the update instead.

Here’s how to do it manually:
  • From your Galaxy S6 edge Home screen tap on Apps.
  • Select the Settings gear icon.
  • Tap About device.
  • Tap Software update.
  • Tap Check for an update.

Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.”  This is a warning message that only appears for those devices that have been rooted and installed with modified and unofficial firmware.  So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot the Galaxy S6 edge first, and or removed any modification that has been installed in it.

Sprint Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge OTA Update (build G920PVPU3CPF4,G925PVPU3CPF4)

Sprint  Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-(G920P) and the Galaxy S6 Edge (SM-G925P) has received another dose of Android Marshmallow update. The update is now the  the 4th Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update on both devices to which is part of it's monthly security patch for critical security vulnerability.  The latter is said to bring the June's Security Patch, while it also includes the Wi-Fi Calling enhancements, and general bug fixes.  The Galaxy S6 Android Marshmallow software build version comes as G920PVPU3CPF4, while the Galaxy S6 also dubbed as the software build G925PVPU3CPF4.

AT&T Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Edge+ Receives Security and Performance Enhancements

AT&T has released another round of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow software updates on Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-G920A), and the Galaxy S6 Edge  (SM-G925A). The said update includes security and performance enhancements on both  devices. While the Galaxy S6 Edge+ (SM-G928A) has also gotten its first Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow  treatment.  Along with the Galaxy S6 Edge+ Marshmallow update is the AT&T Video Call added feature, but it also includes some general fixes and system enhancements.

Galaxy S6 SM-G920F/SM-G920I June 2016 Android Security Patch Update Roundup (6-28-2016)

The Galaxy S6 SM-G920F and the Galaxy S6 SM-G920I has gotten another round of updates  from  the past couple of days. It's basically part of the monthly security  update and this time it is equipped with the security patches for the month of June 2016, while replacing the last May 2016 updates. Verizon Galaxy S5 Update G900VVRU2DPF4 Marshmallow Latest Security Patches

Verizon Galaxy S5 is getting another OTA update and bumped up the current Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS from build version G900VVRU2DPD1 to G900VVRU2DPF4.  This update is said to optimize device performance and applies the latest security patches to which points out for the month of June fixes.

AT&T Galaxy Note5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update N920AUCU2BPE6

AT&T's Galaxy Note 5 has  finally receives the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. Today, AT&T  has started pushing out the OTA update dubbed as build version N920AUCU2BPE6, to which carries the said Android Marshmallow upgrade.  Noting that AT&T had been releasing the beta Marshmallow a while back thru its beta program invitations participants.  But those who did not participate the program that are still waiting for tentative and final Android 6.0 Marshmallow build, this is it.

Along with the Marshmallow goodies, it also brings  the Video Calling support. The rest are general bug fixes, a security update, system improvements,  enhanced permission controls, a slightly revamped user interface and more.

Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge Android Marshmallow Security Patch Update for May2016

The Samsung Galaxy S6,S6 Edge, and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ (plus) has been receiving simultaneous Android Marshmallow software updates. As the update's has been continually rolling out, some folks might have asked why are these updates keeps on coming in. Well, those updates were just basically the monthly security patch for the Android OS.  Google has been releasing these Security Patch updates ever since they've found out these  said Android vulnerabilities.

Most of these updates are newer builds but it will not bring any new features to the latest Android Marshmallow OS. However,  It will of course brings more additional security enhancements, some bug fixes, and further stability to the device Android Marshmallow OS.

As you might have already noticed the "Android Security Patch level" that has been added and indicated in the device OS since February 2016.  This security patch level changes in a monthly basis if and when there are new update arrives.  You can view this in the phone's software details via settings itself, from the Home screen, just tap on Apps, then  Settings, and About device.

Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900H Marshmallow Update G900HXXU1CPE6, 1st Official Android 6.0.1 Release

For those of you who owned the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900H (Exynos) that  might have been waiting for the Android Marshmallow update. Well, here it comes the first official released build G900HXXU1CPE6, to which technically  based in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS.  The G900HXXU1CPE6  is currently rolling out in phases in Kazakhstan, but might as well also soon available to the rest of any countries in Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia. This is only an initial release to which will take more time before it reaches to any parts of the world.

In addition, the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to the Samsung Galaxy S5 is taking quite so slow, but it’s still nice to see the rollout has begun. The Galaxy S5 is now more than 2 years old, but still kicking in for the latest Android OS. Furthermore, several variants of the Samsung Galaxy S5 such as the Galaxy S5 SM-G900F (Snapdragon), Galaxy S5 SM-G900I, while some major carriers in United States, and Canada like Sprint Galaxy S5 SM-G900P, T-Mobile Galaxy S5 SM-G900T, Telus, and Bell Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8 have had also received the said Marshmallow update from the last couple of days and weeks earlier.

How to Update the Samsung Galaxy S5 to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow?


Samsung urges us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update.  I have also added some useful insights why you should follow this procedure to keep your  phone in safe.

Recharge the phone’s battery – You should make sure your device is fully recharged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failure may cause damaged to your device that might result to what we called “soft-bricks”.  If this happened on your device, it may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.

Backup important data – You should back-up your important files, including contacts, emails, messages, photos, videos, apps and other stuff. Like I said while during software update process is interrupted there is a possibility that your data stored from your device internal SD card may lose or deleted when a sudden unexpected failure happened and it forces you to perform a factory data reset which basically wipes your phone’s memory.

Ensure that your Galaxy S5 should still running in an official or factory firmware and hasn’t been rooted nor modified – Your device should not be modified or rooted, there are some certain circumstances that a modified and rooted Galaxy S5 SM-G900H may not accept any official software update anymore or it can accept an update but it might harm your device once the update has made. Learn about the new Samsung KNOX security suite. Most known error that says ‘firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in Kies and try again‘ or “Your device has been modified Software update are not available” you should try to avoid that from happening.

How to Perform an Update via Over-The-Air (OTA)?


This is usually how the carrier branded or locked Samsung Galaxy S5, performs a software update.  This method is Firmware Update through over the air or called as OTA update, which most often  a notification message will directly send out to you from your network provider or Samsung and notifies you that there is a new update available for download.  If you did not receive any notification messages you can manually check for the update instead.  Doing this you may only tap on your Galaxy S5 SM-G900H Settings >About Device > Software Update.
  • From the Home screen, touch the Settings icon.
  • Touch About device.
  • Touch Software update.

It will automatically tell you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet. You can simply tap install now when you want to perform an update or install later.

How to Update the Galaxy S5 Thru Kies / Smart Switch?


The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Kies / Smart Switch for PC. You may head over to your  local Samsung support page from where you can download Samsung Kies from there, and install it in your Windows or Mac computer. Choose the new Kies 3 which supports the Galaxy S5 SM-G900H and other Samsung devices running with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS .  Once you installed Kies / Smart Switch, all you need is connect your Samsung Galaxy S5 into your PC using the USB data cable, then simply run and follow Kies or Smart Switch on-screen’s software update instruction.

For those who have a rooted Galaxy S5, you folks might need to download the G900HXXU1CPE6 stock firmware itself, as you may no longer get the Over The air update as long as your device has been modified – Galaxy S5 SM-G900H Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Firmware.  So the only way to upgrade your phone to Marshmallow is to manually install the official Android 6.0.1 Marsmallow firmware itself. This process will completely unroot and remove any modification in your Galaxy S5 phone and restores it back to its official or factory default firmware.

T-Mobile Galaxy S5 SM-G900T Marshmallow Update build G900TUVU1GPE1 Android 6.0.1

T-Mobile has also released the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update on Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900T including the SM-G900T3 variant.  The first Marshmallow  update comes as build version G900TUVU1GPE1 to which the latter is released in phases via Over-The-Air (OTA) and thru Samsung Smart Switch for PC. Updating the Galaxy S6 edge via Over-The-Air (OTA)


This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 edge  to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will be directly sent out to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.  This approach requires you to prepare a strong WiFi connection,  and so it might happen sometimes that one did not receive any software update notification messages; (1) If and when the device is out of range during the software update roll out  period, (2) Automatic update has been turned off in the device Settings.
However, We can still manually check for the update instead.

Here’s how to do it manually:
  • From your Galaxy S6 edge Home screen tap on Apps.
  • Select the Settings gear icon.
  • Tap About device.
  • Tap Software update.
  • Tap Check for an update.

It will then notify you that a new update is available for download. But it also says that “Your device software is up to date“, and there is no software update is yet available for grab. You can simply choose Install now if you do so or else Install later if you want to get the update in later time.

But if ever you might have had received this message while checking software update that says something like “The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.”  This is a warning message that only appears for those devices that have been rooted and installed with modified and unofficial firmware.  So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot the Galaxy S6 edge first, and or removed any modification that has been installed in it.

You have to choose the one that is specifically built for computer, depends on what you have either a PC or Mac.  Once you installed Smart Switch, all you need to do is to connect your Samsung Galaxy S6 on your  computer using the supplied USB  cable.

  2. Connect the Galaxy S6  into the computer using the supplied USB data cable.
  3. Smart Switch will automatically prompt you if the update is available. Just click on the “update” then the “OK”  button to begin updating your Galaxy S6.

Canadian Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8 Receiving Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update build G900W8VLU1DPD3

The Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8 to which refers as the Canadian version is receiving its first Android Marshmallow update. Most known error that says ‘firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in Kies and try again‘ or “Your device has been modified Software update are not available” you should try to avoid that from happening.

How to Perform an Update via Over-The-Air (OTA)?


This is usually how the carrier branded or locked Samsung Galaxy S5, performs a software update.  This method is Firmware Update through over the air or called as OTA update, which most often  a notification message will directly send out to you from your network provider or Samsung and notifies you that there is a new update available for download.  If you did not receive any notification messages you can manually check for the update instead.  Doing this you may only tap on your Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8 Settings > About Device, tap Software Update.
  • From the Home screen, touch the Settings icon.
  • Touch About device.
  • Touch Software update.

It will automatically tell you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet. You can simply tap install now when you want to perform an update or install later.

How to Update the Galaxy S5 Thru Kies / Smart Switch?


The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Kies / Smart Switch for PC. You may head over to your  local Samsung support page from where you can download Samsung Kies from there, and install it in your Windows or Mac computer. Choose the new Kies 3 which supports the Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8 and other Samsung devices running with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS .  Once you installed Kies 3, all you need is to connect your Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8 into your PC using the USB data cable, then simply run and follow Kies or Smart Switch on-screen’s software update instruction.

For those who have a rooted Galaxy S5, you folks might need to download the G900W8VLU1DPD3 stock firmware itself – Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Firmware.  Your phone might no longer receive an over-the-air (OTA) update since it has been modified. So the only way to upgrade your phone to Marshmallow is to manually install the stock firmware. This process will completely unroot your phone and restores it back to its official or factory default firmware.
