AT&T's Samsung Galaxy S4 is battling its journey to owners who expects that it comes with unlocked bootloader but its locked bootloader. This has been confirmed by +Steve Kondik the after-market developer of the famous CynogenMod ROM that the Ma Bell version of the Galaxy S4 launches truly has a locked bootloader. With locked bootloader, the development community is on-hold for building custom ROMs and this scenario sparks disappointment to owners who expected that they can easily install root, custom recoveries and custom ROMs.
The said Samsung Galaxy S4 locked bootloader was AT&T's corporate decision and not from Samsung since its the same Samsung Galaxy S4 on every US carriers such T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon and others. This always happens in the US since most of this devices is fully controlled by carrier providers. This isn't a big deal for average users who doesn't have any idea about this bootloader locked and unlocked thing. But this is a displeasure from the development community's side, those people who are the biggest fans of CyanogenMod, AOKP and other custom ROMs.
Just hope that this might be temporary for now. If AT&T declines to open their doors on this situation, then there is no doubt if the development community completely discourage people on buying this device.
