Update your Sprint Galaxy S6 edge now to build version G925PVPU2BOGA as the update now equipped with Google security patches to get rid of the surrounding Stagefright bug in some infected  apps and websites that was rigged to bug any Android smartphones and tablets.  Good thing to know that Sprint Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge have to receive it first in hand, while on the other hand, we are also expecting all other major U.S. carrier that might also follow soon.

Earlier today, Sprint has announced the release of the new update on Galaxy S6 (SM-G920P) that will bump up the software build version to G920PVPU2BOGA. Then it is also followed with another announcement for the Galaxy S6 edge devices.  The update will  also then bump the software version from  G925PVPU2BOFE to G925PVPU2BOGA.

The Stagefright affects almost all smartphones and tablets that have had had downloaded an infected application and or those who have visited a website that was being rigged to bug an Android phone.

Here are the technical details:
Android version: 5.1.1
Baseband version: G925PVPU2BOGA
Kernel version: 3.10.61
Build number: LMY47X.G925PVPU2BOGA

Samsung Galaxy S 6 edge Software Update
Effective Date: 08/05/15 (all dates are subject to change)
Details:
A software update to G925PVPU2BOGA is available for the Samsung Galaxy S 6 beginning, 08/05/15

Fixes/Enhancements:
Google Security Patch (Stagefright)
  • Software updates may be released in stages and can take several days for delivery.
  • If prompted that an update is available, follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

The G925PVPU2BOGA update weighs at just around 53MB in file size.  It is a minor OTA update compared to the previous ones, but everyone must take the update to get rid of the Stagefright bug. Sprint is sending the G920PVPU2BOGA update out in waves from today August 5th and might only end until all devices receive the update that usually run at the span of two weeks.

So if you don't get the notification yet, you may just keep on checking by going into the phone's Settings>About device>Check for an update. The firmware server refreshes once in every hour, so just continue doing it until it says that the update is available for download.
Also, keep in mind that you cannot get the update if you have rooted or have a modified system running on your device.  Your device must have to be still run with official firmware in the system.

Galaxy S6 Edge Update build G925FXXU2POGU with baseband version G925FXXU2POGS

These days we have gathered around a numerous updates son Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and the Galaxy S6. Today we have spotted another Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update with much higher build number dubbed as G925FXXU2POGU with a baseband version that bumps to G925FXXU2POGS is heading its way in Thailand alone. Noting that the rest of the Southeast Asian countries has just recently received an update to build version G925FXXU2BOGF, but Thailand Galaxy S6 edge owners wasn't a part of it. So instead this build number is the one what we have seen earlier from Samsung's firmware server.

Whatever new changes and or enhanced feature this update build (G925FXXU2POGU) may bring, those folks from Thailand who owns the Galaxy S6 edge can say it all.

Here is what the technical details found in the phone's Settings>About device:
Android version: 5.1.1
Baseband version: G925FXXU2POGS
Kernel Version: 3.10.61-51964795
Build Number: LMY47X.G925FXXU2POGU

Again, this particular build is only seen in Samsung public server. It maybe or might not be available in Thailand as of this time being. So better check the update if happens that your are from the aforementioned country.

How to Update the Galaxy S6 Edge to Official Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

Just follow these guide on how to keep your Galaxy S6 Edge in a much safer way while performing a software update.  I also added some useful insights and why you should follow this procedure.

First and foremost make sure to recharge your Galaxy S6 Edge – While performing a software update on Galaxy S6 Edge it may only take just a couple of minutes but sometimes it may take longer. It will depend on how small or large the update size is, but most cases it also affects the speed of your data connection. Slower WiFi data connection may take longer while a stronger data connection is more speedy. A 40% to 50% battery power percentage is enough, but a fully recharged is way much better. Since we cannot determine how what the exact time we need to consume when initiating the firmware update so we should make sure our device has still enough battery remaining power to avoid any fatal issues. Have you ever heard or encountered those fellas who ended their devices into soft-bricks? A device was just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally, those are what we called soft-bricks. And most probably caused by an inadequate battery power while performing the software update.

Do not forget to back up all of the important data – Even though there are no any data that are going to be deleted right after performing software update. But what if the software update went wrong, the update unexpectedly fails and then the phone becomes unresponsive and then it forces you to perform a wipe data/factory that basically wipes your phone’s memory storage just to resolve the issue. So you should backup your important files, including contacts, messages, call log, photos, videos, music, and apps. You cannot recover these files if somehow accidentally deleted when the software update goes wrong.

Your Galaxy S6 Edge must still run on the official software version and hasn’t been rooted nor installed with non-official firmware update – Just in case you just need to know that a rooted and a modified Galaxy S6 Edge will not get official software update anymore from Samsung and either to which carrier provider it came from. It will not allow users to install the update as it might harm the device once the update has made. So a rooted and modified Galaxy S6 Edge users usually receives this warning message instead, that says: ‘The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.

Update the Galaxy S6 Edge via Firmware Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will be directly sent out to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.  This approach requires you to prepare a strong WiFi connection,  and so it might happen sometimes that one did not receive any software update notification messages; 1) if and when the device is out of range during the software update roll out  period, 2) Automatic update has been turned off in the device Settings.
However, We can still manually check for the update instead.
Here’s how to do it manually:
  • From your Galaxy S6 Edge Home screen tap on Apps.
  • Select the Settings gear icon.
  • Tap About device.
  • Tap Software update.
  • Tap Check for an update.

It will then notify you that a new update is available for download. But it also says that “Your device software is up to date“, and there is no software update is yet available for grab. You can simply choose Download and Install now if you do so or else Install later if you want to get the update in later time.

But if ever you might have had received this message while checking software update that says something like “The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.”  This is a warning message that only appears for those devices that have been rooted and installed with modified and unofficial firmware.  So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot your Galaxy S6 first and removed any modification that has been installed on it.

Update the Galaxy S6 Edge Thru Samsung Smart Switch

You can use Smart Switch to update your Galaxy S6 Edge software to the latest versions.  It can also be used if the Software Over-The-Air update fails for some reason. The Smart Switch is way similar to the before Samsung Kies that had been used on several devices.

5. Select the “Backup” button, to safely kept your important data and files such as contacts, messages, call log, videos, music, photos, application and more.  The back up data files will be stored in the  documents folder of your computer. This is a very important steps as it wipes out all of it while performing the software update process. All data will permanently deleted and it cannot be recovered, so ensure to create a backup first before it’s too late than sorry.

6. Click on the “More” button again.  Choose “Emergency software recovery and initialization” in the drop-down option.

Once your Galaxy S6 Edge reboots disconnect it from the computer. Then reconnect it back again.

Update build version G925FXXU2BOGA, Lollipop 5.1.1 on Galaxy S6 edge SM-G925F

Another Lollipop 5.1.1 update on Galaxy S6 edge SM-G925F dubbed as build version G925FXXU2BOGA. The latter is only held available in Nordic countries as of this moment. The firmware build number itself sounds like an outdated one compared to recent version G925FXXU2BOGB, the one we have seen in the United Kingdom and Ireland. But actually it is not, as this particular build indicates a much higher baseband version as well as the kernel version.

Here is what the technical details as we compared the two build version which can found within the phone's Settings>About device:
G925FXXU2BOGAG925FXXU2BOGB
Android version: 5.1.1
Baseband version: G925FXXU2BOGF
Kernel Version: 3.10.61-5447113
Build Number: LMY47X.G925FXXU2BOGA
Build date: 21 July 2015
Android version: 5.1.1
Baseband version: G925FXXU2BOGE
Kernel Version: 3.10.61-5012324
Build Number: LMY47X.G925FXXU2BOGB
Build date: 21 July 2015

The two build got the same build date, but you can easily determine the differences between the two.  Besides these two different updates has new "Auto stop" feature, this can now be found in the smart manager,  just head over to the RAM section and then in "Manage apps".  According to some reports, it is said that the update increases battery life but also decreases its performance.  So better check it out, and see real-deal of what this update can bring.

Again, tis particular build version G925FXXU2BOGA, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is only sent out by Samsung in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Iceland. There might be some other reason behind it to why this update is only for Nordic countries.

A 40% to 50% recharged is enough, but a fully recharged is way much better.

Do not forget to back up all of the important data – Even though there are no any data that are going to be deleted right after performing a software update.

So a rooted and modified Galaxy S6 Edge users usually receives this warning message instead, that says: The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way.

In most often cases, a notification message will directly send to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.

Download Smart Switch for PC

You have to choose the one that is specifically built for computer, depends on what you have either a PC or Mac.  Once you installed Smart Switch, all you need is to connect your Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G925F into the computer using the supplied USB data cable.

1. Run Smart Switch in your computer.

2. Connect the Galaxy S6 Edge  into the computer using the supplied USB data cable.

3. Smart Switch will automatically prompt you if the update is available. Just click on the “update” then the “OK”  button to begin updating your Galaxy S6 Edge.

If it doesn’t tell you about the availability of the new update, you may manually navigate through its settings by doing these procedures below.

4. Click on the “More” button at the right top of Smart Switch. You will then presented an option.  Choose “Preferences”  in the drop-down. You are then presented with two tabs the Backup file and  Software Update.  The backup file allows you to allocate a certain folder where you want your  backup files to be stored. Then on the other hand the Software Update tab is where you can set it to the Latest Software Pre-Download Settings.  Just mark the checkbox where it says  Latest Software Pre-Download.

Choose the “Software Update and Initialization” tab.
Wait for a couple of seconds as it check the current software version of your Galaxy S6 Edge and then check for the latest software update version to initialized.  You may then simply follow the on-screen instructions that ask you to click the “OK” or a“Cancel”button.

Once the Software update initialization started you must not  interrupt the process like unplugging  the data cable connected to the computer nor turning off the device. You must wait until it says “Software update and Initialization are complete”.

Once your Galaxy S6 Edge reboots disconnect it from the computer. Then reconnect it back again.

7. Lastly restore the backup, choose “Restore” button to restore the previously created  backup files.

G920FXXU2BOG8 Lollipop 5.1.1 update with baseband version G920FXXU2BOGE Sent out on Galaxy S6 G920F

The Lollipop, Android 5.1.1 update on Galaxy S6 SM-G920F has been popping up these past few days. This week we saw another update came around in France. This time, it bumps up the build version to G920FXXU2BOG8. The build number is not that much intriguing here, but the new baseband version itself dubbed as G920FXXU2BOGE which is much higher than the build number.

Now, the question is, is this a newer build? The answer is definitely yes. But, it has a similarity to the first Lollipop 5.1.1 released G920FXXU2BOFJ as the kernel version itself has remained the same. We knew that Samsung has never released any detailed information to what new changes it carries. Usually, the only thing it says is that it brings some sort of device stability improvements, bug fixes, new enhanced features and further improvements to performance.  How's battery life performance? Well, just hope it also brings some power improvements as it was never stated in the initial changelog details and too early to tell.

What are the technical details?

Android version: 5.1.1
Baseband version: G920FXXU2BOGE
Kernel Version: 3.10.61-5012324
Build Number: LMY47X.G920FXXU2BOG8

Again, this update is only held available in France for SIM-Free or unlocked Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G920F as for now. But it might also available in throughout the rest of European countries any time soon. The update is around 230 MB in file size, and can be downloaded via Over The Air (OTA) update or by using Smart Switch.

Sprint is sending out another Lollipop 5.1.1 software update on Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G920P which will now bump up the firmware build version to G920PVPU2BOFE from the previous version G920PVPU2BOF7.  The update will now enables the carrier aggregation which technically allows the device to tap into multiple access points from other carrier providers. The latter is also added with various bug fixes and enhancements according to initial change-log details.

Technical details of the Android 5.1.1 update:

Model number: SM-G920P
Android version: 5.1.1
Baseband version: G920PVPU2BOFE
Kernel version: 3.10.61
Build number:  LMY47X.G920PVPU2BOFE

The update is around 167.03 MB in file size and now rolling out via over the air. The update's  notification message is all around in the corner, but if you did not get the notification you may just keep on checking.

How to Update the Galaxy S6 to Lollipop 5.1.1 via Firmware Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases a notification message will directly sent to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.  This approach requires you to prepare a strong WiFi connection,  and so it might happened sometimes that one did not receive any software update notification messages; 1) if and when the device is out of range during the software update roll out  period, 2) Automatic update has been turned off in the device Settings.
However, We can still manually check for the update instead.
Here’s how to do it manually:
  • From your Galaxy S6 Home screen tap on Apps.
  • Select the Settings gear icon.
  • Tap About device.
  • Tap Software update.
  • Tap Check for update.

It will then notify you that a new update is available for download. But it also says that “Your device software is up to date“, and there is no software update is yet available for grab. You can simply choose Download and Install now if you do so or else Install later if you want to get the update in later time.

But if ever you might have had receive this message while checking software update that says something like “The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.”  This is a warning message that only appears for those devices that has been rooted and installed with modified and unofficial firmware.  So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot your Galaxy S6 first and removed any modification that has been installed on it.

It will then automatically tells you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet.

Update the Galaxy S6 Thru Samsung Smart Switch

Samsung Smart Switch has the capability to  initiate software update on Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. You can use Smart Switch to update your Galaxy S6 software to the latest versions.  It can also be used if the Software Over-The-Air update fail for some reason. The Smart Switch is way similar to the before Samsung Kies that had been used on several devices.

You may head-over to your local Samsung support page from where you can download Samsung Smart Switch from there.  You can choose the one that is specifically built for computer, depends of what you have either a PC or Mac.  Once you installed Smart Switch, all you need is connect your Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G920F into the computer using the supplied USB data cable.

1. Run Smart Switch in your computer.

2. Connect the Galaxy S6 into the computer using the supplied USB data cable. Smart Switch will automatically prompt you  if the update is available.  If somehow it doesn’t shows you the availability, you may manually check the update instead.

3. Click on the “More” button at the right top of Smart Switch. You will then presented an options. Just mark the check-box where it says  Latest Software Pre-Download.

5. Click on the “More” button again.  Choose “Emergency software recovery and initialization” in the drop-down option.

Choose the “Software Update and  Initialization” tab.
Wait for a couple of seconds as it check the current software version of your Galaxy S6 and then check for the latest software update version to initialized.  You may then simply follow the on-screen instructions that ask you to click the “OK” or a “Cancel” button.
