AT&T Galaxy S6, S6 active, S6 edge and S6 Edge+ receiving October Security updates [G920AUCS5DPJ1]

AT&T is now pushing updates to the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 active, Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+.

According to AT&T's support pages,  these updates includes the October security patches. So there is nothing more any new features nor any noticeable adverse effect to expect. Even though the security updates is not that much anticipated in these days, but it helps keep your personal data safe. It always much better to keep an eye for your device updates each month.

Below are the technical details of each specific device. Just make sure to check the update if your device haven't yet receive one of these recently released software updates.

Device Update via Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 edge  to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will be directly sent out to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.  This approach requires you to prepare a strong WiFi connection,  and so it might happen sometimes that one did not receive any software update notification messages; (1) If and when the device is out of range during the software update roll out  period, (2) Automatic update has been turned off in the device Settings.
However, We can still manually check for the update instead.

Here’s how to do it manually:

• From your Galaxy S6 edge Home screen tap on Apps.
• Select the Settings gear icon.
• Tap About device.
• Tap Software update.
• Tap Check for an update.

It will then notify you that a new update is available for download. But it also says that “Your device software is up to date“, and there is no software update is yet available for grab. You can simply choose Install now if you do so or else Install later if you want to get the update in later time.

But if ever you might have had received this message while checking software update that says something like “The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.”  This is a warning message that only appears for those devices that have been rooted and installed with modified and unofficial firmware.  So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot the Galaxy S6 edge first, and or removed any modification that has been installed in it.

Sprint Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Android Security Update, October Patches (G920PVPS4CPJ1 & G925PVPS4CPJ1)

Sprint  has pushed an OTA update for Galaxy S6 (SM-G920P) and the Galaxy S6 edge (SM G925P), bringing the new Android security Patch for the month of October. The update came out as build version G920PVPS4CPJ1 (for the Galaxy S6) and build G925PVPS4CPJ1 (for the Galaxy S6 edge). Both updates are still base in Android 6.0 Marshmallow and not the much awaited Android 7.0 Nougat update.  The released  were still part of the monthly security maintenance that fixes the recent Android vulnerabilities.

The update is officially live via Over-The-Air (OTA) and it weighs at approximately 50 MB in file size.  The rolling out usually takes into several days, so better check the update manually by going to Settings > About device > Software Update > Check for updates, if you haven’t prompted the availability of the this update yet. You must also ensure that your phone has not been rooted or otherwise the update may fail and you may not successfully get the update.

How to Update the Samsung Galaxy S5 to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow?

Samsung urges us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update.  I have also added some useful insights why you should follow this procedure to keep your  phone in safe.

Recharge the phone’s battery – You should make sure your device is fully recharged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failure may cause damaged to your device that might result to what we called “soft-bricks”.  If this happened on your device, it may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.

US Unlocked Galaxy S6 G920TUES5DPI2 September Security Patch Update

The US Unlock Galaxy S6 is getting the new OTA update that brings its Android Marshmallow OS to build version G920TUES5DPI2 from G920TUES4DPH2. The update basically brings the new Android Security Patch to which now covers the month of September fixes. However,  the changelog does not mentioned any additional key features but there might also some minimal system improvements and general bug-fixes along with it. AT&T Galaxy Note 5 Receive Wi-Fi Calling, Advance Messaging, and September Security Patch Update N920AUCU3CPHA

AT&T has started rolling out the September Security patch update dubbed as build version N920AUCU3CPHA. This update is part of the monthly Android device security maintenance, to which to be release once in every month.  This update will also enables the Wi-Fi Calling, Advance Messaging support for the device. There might also some several bug-fixes and system improvements that weren't mentioned in the released notes hence the update's file size is a hefty 431MB compared to the previous released build version N920AUCS3BPH4 last month to which only weighs at 33.5 MB.

So those who got AT&T's Galaxy Note 5 in hand, you folks might the update in your device right now.

You may check the update manually if you haven’t received the notification message yet.  Your phone must be on current build version MMB29K. N920AUCS3BPH4 to get the update straight into your device. While those phone running on the previous released build like MMB29K. N920AUCS2BPG1, you folks might repeat the update process until your receive the build version MMB29K. N920AUCU3CPHA.

Just do the following simple steps and you’ll update your Galaxy Note 5 in no time.

1. From the device Home screen, simply tap Apps.
2. Tap the Settings (gear icon).
3. Tap the System tab.
4. Tap About device.
5. Tap Software update.
6. Tap Check for updates.
7. Tap the Install button, then OK.
8. Wait until the phone completely reboot before touching it. It may reboot (turn on and off) multiple times as the update might still at its finalization stage.

Sprint Galaxy Note 5 receives the Android security patch update that covers both August and September month fixe. The security patch update is supposed to be rolled out once in every month but the August security patch haven't been released last month while the previous released is way back in July.
