November Android Security Updates for Galaxy S6 & Galaxy S6 Edge has started on international models

Hence the Android security maintenance updates is released by Samsung and Google itself  in a monthly basis.  This time we have seen an unexpected early roll out of the November Security patches for Galaxy S6 (SM-G920F) & Galaxy S6 Edge (SM-G925F) models in select countries.

This update is still base in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS, and there's no official Android 7.0 Nougat update ever hit on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 so far.  The update has seen available in Russia at this time being, but might as well be push to the rest of Galaxy S6 & Galaxy S6 Edge users around the world.

AT&T is now pushing updates to the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 active, Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+.

According to AT&T's support pages,  these updates includes the October security patches. So there is nothing more any new features nor any noticeable adverse effect to expect. Device Update via Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 edge  to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will be directly sent out to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.  This approach requires you to prepare a strong WiFi connection,  and so it might happen sometimes that one did not receive any software update notification messages; (1) If and when the device is out of range during the software update roll out  period, (2) Automatic update has been turned off in the device Settings.
However, We can still manually check for the update instead.

Here’s how to do it manually:

• From your Galaxy S6 edge Home screen tap on Apps.
• Select the Settings gear icon.
• Tap About device.
• Tap Software update.
• Tap Check for an update.

How to Update the Samsung Galaxy S5 to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow?

Samsung urges us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update.  I have also added some useful insights why you should follow this procedure to keep your  phone in safe.

Recharge the phone’s battery – You should make sure your device is fully recharged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. Samsung urges us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update.  I have also added some useful insights why you should follow this procedure to keep your  phone in safe.

Recharge the phone’s battery – You should make sure your device is fully recharged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failure may cause damaged to your device that might result to what we called “soft-bricks”.  If this happened on your device, it may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.

Backup important data – You should back-up your important files, including contacts, emails, messages, photos, videos, apps and other stuff. Like I said while during software update process is interrupted there is a possibility that your data stored from your device internal SD card may lose or deleted when a sudden unexpected failure happened and it forces you to perform a factory data reset which basically wipes your phone’s memory.

Ensure that your Galaxy S5 should still running in an official or factory firmware and hasn’t been rooted nor modified – Your device should not be modified or rooted, there are some certain circumstances that a modified and rooted Galaxy S5 SM-G900T may not accept any official software update anymore or it can accept an update but it might harm your device once the update has made. Learn about the new Samsung KNOX security suite. Most known error that says ‘firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in Kies and try again‘ or “Your device has been modified Software update are not available” you should try to avoid that from happening.

How to Perform an Update via Over-The-Air (OTA)?

This is usually how the carrier branded or locked Samsung Galaxy S5, performs a software update.  This method is Firmware Update through over the air or called as OTA update, which most often  a notification message will directly send out to you from your network provider or Samsung and notifies you that there is a new update available for download.  If you did not receive any notification messages you can manually check for the update instead.  Doing this you may only tap on your Galaxy S5 SM-G900T Settings >About Device > Software Update.

• From the Home screen, touch the Settings icon.


• Touch About device.


• Touch Software update.

It will automatically tell you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet. You can simply tap install now when you want to perform an update or install later.

How to Update the Galaxy S5 Thru Kies / Smart Switch?

The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Kies / Smart Switch for PC. You may head over to your  local Samsung support page from where you can download Samsung Kies from there, and install it in your Windows or Mac computer. Choose the new Kies 3 which supports the Galaxy S5 SM-G900T and other Samsung devices running with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS .  Once you installed Kies / Smart Switch, all you need is connect your Samsung Galaxy S5 into your PC using the USB data cable, then simply run and follow Kies or Smart Switch on-screen’s software update instruction.

For those who have a rooted Galaxy S5, you folks might need to download the stock firmware itself - either the G900TUVS1GPI1, G900T1UVS1GPI1, or the G900T3UVS3GPI1 as you may no longer get the Over The air update as long as your device has been modified – Galaxy S5 SM-G900T Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Firmware.  So the only way to upgrade your phone to Marshmallow is to manually install the official Android 6.0.1 Marsmallow firmware itself. This process will completely unroot and remove any modification in your Galaxy S5 phone and restores it back to its official or factory default firmware.

Verizon Galaxy S6 G920VVRS4CPI2, S6 edge G925VVRS4CPI2 update, brings September security patches

Verizon Galaxy S6 and S6 edge has yet receive another Security Patch updates to which now covers the month of September.  The Galaxy S6 has bumped up its Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS from  build version G920VVRU4CPH1 to G920VVRS4CPI2. How to Update Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Edge via Over-The-Air (OTA)

This is the usual method on how to check and to perform an update on Galaxy S6 edge  to the latest software version.  This method is what we called Firmware Update  Over-The-Air and so-called as FOTA or simply OTA update. In most often cases, a notification message will be directly sent out to you by your network provider and by Samsung itself, telling you that there is a new update that has now available for download.  This approach requires you to prepare a strong WiFi connection,  and so it might happen sometimes that one did not receive any software update notification messages; (1) If and when the device is out of range during the software update roll out  period, (2) Automatic update has been turned off in the device Settings.
However, We can still manually check for the update instead.

Here’s how to do it manually:

• From your Galaxy S6 edge Home screen tap on Apps.
• Select the Settings gear icon.
• Tap About device.
• Tap Software update.
• Tap Check for an update.

It will then notify you that a new update is available for download. But it also says that “Your device software is up to date“, and there is no software update is yet available for grab. You can simply choose Install now if you do so or else Install later if you want to get the update in later time.

But if ever you might have had received this message while checking software update that says something like “The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.”  This is a warning message that only appears for those devices that have been rooted and installed with modified and unofficial firmware.  So to be able to get the Software OTA update again, you must Unroot the Galaxy S6 edge first, and or removed any modification that has been installed in it.

How to Update Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Edge Using Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant

You may download and install the Software Upgrade Assistant  at Verizon support page if you haven't installed it yet in your computer.

1. Launch  Software Upgrade Assistant.
2. Connect your device to the PC using the supplied USB cable.
3. You may need to manually open the "USB computer connection" and select "Transferring media files/ File transfer".
4. Select the Samsung device.
5. Click Upgrade.
6. When  the software upgrade process completed you may then close the program and disconnect your device.

AT&T is sending out an OTA update for the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge to which brings the Android device security updates. It's basically the new security patches for Android vulnerabilities for the month of September. A weeks ago AT&T has released the Wi-Fi Calling and Advanced Messaging support for their Galaxy S6,  Galaxy S6 edge, and S6 edge plus line up, but it was only includes the August Security patch updates.
